I will name your dead If you will name mine For two voices raised in song Are better than one that can falter I will mark your steps You may tread in mine If you have enemies, we have enemies And if I’m still living, you’ve got time This is the promise oft made Forcèd, unmeant Laid at the foot of a god long dead Who will hold us to task for what we’ve said If we say If we say The magic has long left the land We may climb the mountain and stand where once was holy to stand I, eyes closed, to see if I feel it Close as I’ve ever come would be with you Name the dead! Times with gods is gone I can do too much and know such That I need not think of the dead or the death to come But double voiced we may invoke any chosen magic twice as deep And if you have a restless night, you may share my sleep This is the promise, this is the promise (I will name your dead)

Wolfwalking 03:44
I am walking in the woods There’s a wolf in front of me - he looks good I would eat him if I could But I think he might eat me Beneath the trees the light is dim The night is wide, the day is thin, dark closing in The wolf turns back and looks at me I see the moon in his teeth I have my shotgun and my bow But I find I do not know What I came to hunt - but then I see The wolf and me - where one will go, the other follows Oh we build dens in the snow We build dens everywhere we go For to sleep alone here is to perish At least we tell each other this And we cannot lie, my wolf and I There is a village yet nearby I know it when I’m civilised But my wolf is all of jaws and fight I decline its lights for fur tonight Many children, many times Fingers hurt by flames burnt bright “You must not let the wolf within “You must not let him ‘neath your skin” But I must walk with him or else I am not walking with myself I must hear his howl and howl in turn Let the candles blister, children, let them burn! Oh we build dens in the snow We build dens everywhere we go For to sleep alone here is to perish At least we tell each other this And we cannot lie, my wolf and I Oh we build dens in the snow We build dens everywhere we go For to sleep alone here is to perish At least we tell each other this And we cannot lie, my wolf and I Oh we build dens in the snow We build dens everywhere we go For to sleep alone here is to perish At least we tell each other this And we cannot lie, my wolf and I

Why do I write so dramatically? Cannot write simply yet emphatically It is too easy to love you Is there love at first sight? Love that reforms life, hurts-the-eyes bright? Are the stories true? We just laugh and love it easy Is that not enough to please me? Will I resent some lack? Yet when I think of you done wrong Like I do you in every damn song I would burn the whole earth black I love words cause the way they flow Love the places I do and do not know And I love them best through you You are a prism, mirror, balm But mostly a man who makes me laugh And strengthens what I do So when I try to write you poetry Honestly I write the lines for me But without you they’d stay unsaid Isn’t that what the tales yearn for? To do what we do but make it more And to share a well-warmed bed So knowing I can ease your way Fight your fights and bright your day Is that not enough? It is easy to love you It flows through everything I do But why should it be tough?
