lyrics

You think the poor choose to be poor
Because you think you chose to be wealthy

How many children are you gonna feed today?
How many children are getting in your way?
Too young to vote
And when they can, they won’t vote right
So just tuck them in
Rumbling stomachs, sweet goodnights
A hungry brain
Doesn’t learn too well in class
So that’s just one more thing
To stack against their chances

But you wrote them off long ago so it’s bare minimum just-don’t-die
And you wonder at the hunger and the anger and the crime
And you know it can’t be you because society does not exist
Crying feed the children marks you out as a socialist
The wheels of progress always turn but sometimes in reverse
And sometimes they’re affixed to the bottom of a hearse
But you can see the motion and the motion blurs your eyes
And the world looks better blurred full of shadows where you can hide

Easy enough to say
That cruelty doesn’t pay
But £30 minus 5 is a damn good margin on staying alive

Are their parents criminals? Are they high on drugs?
Do they spend their benefits on TVs and thick pile rugs?
Do they jet away to the south of France and leave the children hungry?
Do they have cupboards full of Malibu but not a scrap for tea?

Well no
That’s propaganda
But who gives a damn
We’re don’t feed kids to an agenda

If a child needs feeding somebody bloody feed the child

I didn’t know you needed it spelling out but let’s make it easy
It’s not subject to morality it’s just a decent plate of tea, not:
Half a tin of tuna spooned into a smoothie cup (what the fuck)
Half a pepper because one pepper’s way too much
A baked potato every day and nothing to go in them
And no account for the hours of gas it requires to cook them

Now I know you don’t do your own shopping
How much can one banana cost?
(I wish I was at a loss but I’m not, I'm just cross because it’s)

Easy enough to say
That cruelty doesn’t pay
But £30 minus 5 is a damn good margin on staying alive

People pay you to pay them to not provide
Ferries and PPE and we track it right
Back to the sources, no horses for these courses
Profiteering off the backs of hungry children
Which hell’s the hell for that?
Which hell’s the hell for that?

Where’s the receipt, did you keep it, can we see it?
I’d say you can’t get away with this but it’s hardly the first time
So forgive me if I say you can screwwwwwwww
your food-poison tuna

Enough with this shit we’ll eat the rich, eat the rich
Swallow all your profit, fatten up, eat the rich
The worthy poor, the hungry poor, the angry poor, who gives a fuck
Rich a la carte, chips & rich, rich beans and rice, a rich food truck

Easy enough to say
That cruelty doesn’t pay
But £30 minus 5 is a damn good margin on staying alive
